The Founders Vivarium — Cycle 01

Every practice needs a starting point.

For The Verdant Vivarium, it began with a rescued crested gecko named Fon-Dude.

This enclosure was not designed for display. It was designed for recovery — for stability, privacy, and the gradual rebuilding of confidence. The structure favors vertical movement and layered choice: open perches for observation, dense cork cavities for retreat, and planted zones that will mature over time.

The substrate was layered deliberately — drainage, separation, organic medium — to support long-term biological activity rather than short-term aesthetics. Epiphytes were mounted with airflow in mind. Open sightlines were preserved. Negative space was protected.

Restraint guided every decision.

A system is not successful when it looks full.

It is successful when the inhabitant behaves naturally within it.

Cycle 01 is not complete. It is settling.

And that settling is part of the design.
